Come September, it’s “Time To Die”

June 17, 2009

I looked across the news board at Pitchfork earlier this afternoon to find that one of my favorite bands of the last 3 years, the San-Fransiscan duo that has since turned into a trio (adding Keaton Snyder) – Dodos – are ready to unveil their third full-length in about three months. Their first album since the breakout Visiter, (my second favorite record of 2008) is titled Time To Die and will be out on Frenchkiss Records on September 15th.

My day has been made. Here is the tracklist:

01.Small Deaths
02.Longform
03.Fables
04.The Strums
05.This Is A Business
06.Two Medicines
07.Troll Nacht
08.Acorn Factory
09.Time To Die

06.09.2009: Song of the Day

“My Night With The Prostitute From Marseille”
written by Zack Condon, performed by Beirut

And we believed her then
And we believed her then

Now, outside, you see the waves in her eyes
And, I, I won’t mind what you decide to swear by

Now, outside, you see the waves in her eyes
And, I, I won’t mind what you decide to swear by

And now, outside, you see her eyes meet the sky
And, I, I don’t mind what you decide to swear by

And now, outside, you see her eyes meet the sky
And, I, I won’t lie I kept you here tonight

And I believed her then
And I believed her then

Awesome Music Video Postings of 2009: #17

I recently added five new Tony Marshall performances up at the Neckbrace Substitute page, lifting the total in the archives of the singer/songwriter near 50. You can check out all of the performances and music videos HERE. For now, I’ve chosen one to share with you from the newest uploads. This is a partial recording of the terrific song, “First Date”.

Here is John Vanderslice performing “Nikki Oh Nikki” in the middle of a parking lot with a respectful crowd singing along. He did something similar at the Earlham show on Saturday, but the crowd was far less considerate.

Gone Primitive #1

April 4, 2009

I spent the two hours before leaving for Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, making two compilations featuring John Vanderslice and John Darnielle of Mountain Goats, who are currently on an all-acoustic tour together called “Gone Primitive”. I thought that before I left I would share each of these compilations with you; a couple of primers to get me ready for the first concert I am attending in 2009. In just two days I will be seeing the two Johns again, that time in Bloomington, with a bonus opening act of Tallest Man On Earth. Should be a grand time.
